CPR (adults)
Not responding and not breathing normally? Call 112 and push hard in the centre of the chest straight away.
-
Speak loudly and shake the shoulders.
No response? Shout for help.
-
Tilt the head back, lift the chin and check breathing for no more than 10 seconds.
Look, listen, feel. Occasional gasping is not normal breathing.
-
Call 112 on speaker. Send someone for the defibrillator (AED).
The dispatcher will tell you on the phone what to do.
-
Push hard in the centre of the chest, 5 to 6 cm deep, to the beat.
Arms straight, heels of the hands on top of each other. 100 to 120 times a minute. Let the chest rise fully each time.
-
If you are trained, give 2 rescue breaths after every 30 compressions. Otherwise just keep pushing.
-
AED here? Switch it on and do what it says.
-
Do not stop until the ambulance crew takes over or the person breathes normally.
Caution
- Pushing is always better than doing nothing. The only mistake is doing nothing.
For first aiders and fire wardens
- With two helpers swap every 2 minutes, with hardly any pause.
- Send someone to the street to guide the ambulance in.
